Keerai kootu





Ingredients -

Green leaves - 3 cups
Green gram - 1/2 cup
Green chilli - 5
Onion - 1 (Chopped)
Tomato - 1 (Chopped)
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Jeera - 2 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Salt - as needed

Seasoning -

Mustard - 1/4 teaspoon
Jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
Curry leaves - 7
Oil - 1 tablespoon
Asafoetida - a pinch

Method -

  1. Soak the Green gram in water for 4 hours
  2. If you are not able to soak, pressure cook the gram the 8 whistles; If soaked, then cook for 2 whistles
  3. Wait till the pressure releases; Open the cooker and add Green leaves, Turmeric powder, Jeera (1 teaspoon) and salt
  4. Pressure for 4 more whistles
  5. At the same time, Grind Coconut, Jeera (1 teaspoon) and Green chilli to a coarse paste
  6. In a Vessel, add Oil and the Seasoning items (including Asafoetida) and fry for 1 min
  7. Add Onions and fry till transparent
  8. Add Tomato, Turmeric powder and fry for 5 min
  9. Mash the Greens & gram and add to it
  10. Add the Ground paste of Coconut and let it boil
Yummy & Healthy Keerai kootu is ready!!!
