Ingredients -
Green leaves - 3 cups
Green gram - 1/2 cup
Green chilli - 5
Onion - 1 (Chopped)
Tomato - 1 (Chopped)
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Jeera - 2 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Salt - as needed
Seasoning -
Mustard - 1/4 teaspoon
Jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
Curry leaves - 7
Oil - 1 tablespoon
Asafoetida - a pinch
Method -
- Soak the Green gram in water for 4 hours
- If you are not able to soak, pressure cook the gram the 8 whistles; If soaked, then cook for 2 whistles
- Wait till the pressure releases; Open the cooker and add Green leaves, Turmeric powder, Jeera (1 teaspoon) and salt
- Pressure for 4 more whistles
- At the same time, Grind Coconut, Jeera (1 teaspoon) and Green chilli to a coarse paste
- In a Vessel, add Oil and the Seasoning items (including Asafoetida) and fry for 1 min
- Add Onions and fry till transparent
- Add Tomato, Turmeric powder and fry for 5 min
- Mash the Greens & gram and add to it
- Add the Ground paste of Coconut and let it boil
